Science Exchange

Calling all Scientists

The RiAus in association with the AIDC are asking scientists to submit their story ideas to an exclusive forum of documentary producers and broadcasters.

The aim is to create collaborative science-documentary projects for the internet, television and/or feature documentary release.

Tell us your science story, the only criteria is that it must:

  • Explore a concept based on sound scientific principles
  • Be relevant, and can be made accessible, to the general public
  • Be both entertaining and engaging

For documentary projects the best subjects are where the public is familiar with the concept, but may not know the full story.  So be prepared to tell your story with a popular-science angle.  Duration is not an issue- no story is too big or too small.

Submissions close Monday 25 January 2010, and the successful shortlist will be announced in early February.

Science Exchange Pitch Session

All shortlisted science stories will be pitched by the scientists to an invited audience of science producers and science broadcasters.

This pitch session will be held within the Royal Institution of Australia (RiAus) Science Exchange building, located on Exchange Place, Adelaide, on 23 February 2010.

Shortlisted applicants from Australia may receive assistance to attend the event.

Shortlisted applicants from overseas will participate in the pitch session by live link.

Prior to the pitch sessions, all shortlisted science stories will be available online to targeted members of the Screening Room. These members can view the submission materials online and contact the scientists directly through DocExchange, the online networking platform.

Thesis

Just finished a paper(s) and want to put some interesting results into context for the public? This 5 minute spot is for you!

Historical

The best stories in Science are rarely heard. Too little is told of the interesting characters, their successes and failures and occasionally the big discoveries that might never have been. If you’ve got an historical story about a group of scientists or a field of science, we’d love to hear it.

Personal

Got a great story about your own interest or experiences in science? Inspire future generations to explore their scientific interests by sharing your story.

Educational

Have you got the ability to explain a complex concept simply? Whatever it is, if you can describe it in words, someone could create it in pictures.

The Science/Art Interface

Got a strong idea for a story that revolves around science and art? Wherever science, technology and art mix, people ask questions. Have you got the answers?

Hot Topics

Working on the next big thing? Think you can tell a story that could engage the public and capture their imagination?
